Rutting with the
Ego Warrior
NEIL INNES

Neil Innes & Me

On Thursday 6th April 2006 I went to the Town Hall in Cheltenham to see Neil Innes who was performing in the Pillar Room.

The night started off with a verse from THE URBAN SPACEMAN (which he described as 'a medley of hit'). He then told us about the time when the Bonzos were recording MY BROTHER MAKES THE NOISES FOR THE TALKIES at Abbey Road and the fact that during a break from recording he heard The Beatles who were recording I WANT TO TELL YOU, we were then treated to excelent part renditions of both these songs. Then we had some audience participation in the form of MR EUROVISION. These tracks were interspersed with jingle type tunes for Fiasco Superstores who were the sponsors.

The second half started with a medley of Rutles tracks which included GOOD TIMES ROLL, CHEESE AND ONION, and BACK IN 64, to name but a few.

Other songs performed on the night included GODFREY DANIEL (performed in the style of Elton John), FACE MAIL IN THE MEAT ZONE, EYE CANDY, CHARLIE BIG POTATOES and another audience participation song called EGO WARRIORS which is all about protecting our right to be an individual, something I totally agree with, and at the end of this song we had to repeat the EGO WARRIOR oath which is:-

I solemnly swear
to defend self-esteem
wherever it may be
without ever appearing
pompous
or idiotic
and never to repeat
parrot fashion
anything I am told
by anyone posing
as an authority figure
so help me Rhonda
help help me Rhonda
ooooooh
I could stamp my little
foot
